Most of us love out of the box ideas. How about having a bookshelf with your chair? It truly sounds interesting doesn’t it? Well the good news is that you will not really need very expensive material for creating a bookshelf chair. The idea might sound a bit tough to you initially. However, we will just explore how you can implement this idea with ease.
Materials required for the job
You will need the following items to make your bookshelf chair.
- Two sheets of ¾ plywood boards
- Wood glue
- 6*8 ft. pine sheets(2*1 inch)
- 4*8ft. pine sheets(2*2 inch)
- Jig Saw
- Cordless drills
- Nail gun and compressor
- 12in Milter saw
- Clamps of various lengths
- Measuring triangle
- Tape measure
Steps to follow
You have to follow the mentioned steps
Step 1: First of call you need a base. You have to cut 4*8 plywood sheet and 2*2 inch pine will be used for building the sides. The side should be 29”in height. Make sure that you take accurate measurements using the tape measure.
Step 2: 2*1 inch pieces of pine need to be used between 2*2 inch pine. It is also essential that 2*2 inch pine and 2*1 pine need to be secured to the plywood platform using glue and pocket screws.
Step 3: Now it is time to create the support. You need to use 2*1 inch pine for creating the support for first plywood piece storey. This setup needs to be secured using glue and pocket screws.

Step 4: Now you need to work on the seating area and the sides. For the horizontal seating you need a piece of plywood just like the base piece. The horizontal seating has to be glued down. Next you need to start working on the upper bookshelf slots using the 2*2 inch pines. For securing these bookshelf slots you need to make use of glue and pocket screws. The seating area needs to be about 28.5” in length and 26” in width. You need to ensure that the pocket screws hold interlocked 2*2 inch pine pieces firmly.

The back side should look same like the sides. The back side is primarily built using the 2*2 inch pines.

Step 5: Next starting cutting for filling in the support for the bookshelf chair top three sides. While the wood glue is drying make it a point to use clamps for secure fixture. After all the fixing ,this is the complete picture of the unpainted bookshelf chair.
Step 6: The last step will be to paint to book shelf. First you will need to apply a coat of primer on the bookshelf and the chair. You should be using a bristle paint brush for painting and should try painting in the direction of wood grain.
You should make it a point to let the coats dry. For best results you should try to apply at least two coats for a better coverage. If you are using oil based paints then you will not need sanding in the first place.
When painting wood just remember one rule of the thumb and that is when you paint wood then you get three options. You can either opt for matt, semi-gloss or gloss paints. When you really want to give the wood a great shine then the best approach will be to go with the glossy paints. The reason is that gloss adds to the shine of the wood. Moreover, glossy paints add up to the durability of your bookshelf chair.
The biggest advantage of a bookshelf chair is that it allows you to consume your space in a better way. For example, if you have a smaller room and cannot accommodate a big bookshelf then this can turn out to be a viable option, plus this idea looks different and a lot more appealing to the eyes.
