Materials that you will need
You will require the following items to make your beach chair.
- Table saw
- Miter saw
- Tape measure
- Orbital sander
- Pilot bit
- Wood glue
Steps to follow
Make it a point to follow the mentioned steps below.
Step 1: The first essential step is to cut the wood. You need to stick to the following measurements when cutting the wood. The wood should always be cut to the desired length.
Chair Back specifications:
The Side Pieces should have the following measurement: 38″ x 1 3/8″ x 3/4.″
Upper Cross Piece should measure up to 16″ x 1 3/8″ x 1/2.″
Lower Cross Pieces should have a measurement of 16″ x 2″ x 1/2.″
Chair Seat Specifications:
The Side Pieces should have the following measurement 24″ x 1 3/8″ x 3/4.″
Cross Piece should measure up to 14 1/4″ x 1 3/8″ x 1/2.″
Seat Slats should have a measurement of 16″ x 1 3/8″ x 1/2.″
Step 2: You should always plane the wood pieces for removing the marks of the saw.
Step 3: You should be cutting at an angle of about forty degrees on the chair backside ends. A sixty-five degree angle should be cut on the end section of the seat sides.
Step 4: Next step is that you should be sanding the pieces of wood. The location at which the screws will be placed need to be measured and marked. Next you need to start drilling and countersink the holes.
Step 5: The upper cross piece needs to be screwed with the back side pieces top.
Step 6: The lower cross piece needs to be glued and screwed to the side pieces front at about five inches from the actual bottom leg.
Step 7: The 2nd lower cross piece needs to be glued and screwed to the actual back and should flush with side pieces and a gap of 1/8 inch should be left that is about an inch more than your seat piece. It is essential to use glue for the respective two pieces because they are supporting the seat.
Step 8: Rear seat cross piece should be screwed with the legs sides of the chair seat. Ensure that your chair seat cross piece is about 1/8” smaller in comparison to the gap between pieces in the back side.
Step 9: Next you need to screw the seat slats.
Step 10: If you want to make chair back with fabric then make sure that you cut the material in a way that it fits across the actual back. Leave some extra fabric so that it can be hemmed. Ideally your fabric should measure 24”*26.5”. 1/2” should be folded along top. It should be glued in place making use of adhesives like liquid stitch. When the fabric has dried up then you need to repeat the step.
You need to fold over the piece that you just glued about 1/2” and it should be glued in place using the liquid stitch. The same process needs to be repeated with the fabric bottom edge.
Step 11: When the glue has completely dried up then the fabric should be stretched tightly across the back of the seat. You should also ensure that the edges of the fabric are folded under and the fabric should be nailed into place.
